Vlotweg Top Movers speaks
What is unique about your removal company?
There are, of course, several reliable family businesses (such as Vlotweg) in our country with the Erkende Verhuizers label. Our strength lies in our versatility, flexibility and continuity. We are versatile and flexible because we continuously invest in training, sustainable removal equipment and storage facilities, and because of our solution-oriented approach. Continuity is guaranteed by our healthy business structure and strategic partnerships. In addition, you can rely on clear agreements, the fulfilment of agreements, punctuality and hospitality.
What do you like most about working in the removals industry?
Removals, large or small, where we can apply our professional knowledge and show that moving is a profession in its own right. When we see our customers' moving stress quickly turn into appreciation and smiles thanks to our efforts, that's what we do it for. And, of course, that we all end up having a pleasant day together.
How did Vlotweg Top Movers come about?
Our company has been run by three brothers for many years, but it was started by our father in 1970 with a small van at home in Arnhem under the name Vrachttaxi Vlotweg. With a Renault Estafette (to be precise), he transported students' belongings, pianos and kitchens. Jos Bakker was a hard worker and a visionary. He sought cooperation with the trade association Erkende Verhuizers (Certified Movers) early on and, shortly afterwards, with Top Movers. Within a few years, the company grew into a fully-fledged removal company with several types of removal vans and storage facilities for private and business customers. The name was changed to Vlotweg Verhuizingen BV, also known as Vlotweg Top Movers.
How do you approach innovation?
Ideas arise by listening carefully to our employees and our customers and by seeking cooperation within the chain. We try to take advantage of these opportunities by setting aside time and money each year. This often happens in a very practical way under our own management, but it can also be a study assignment for students, for example. The emphasis is generally on sustainable materials, ergonomic aids and innovative training courses.
How do you deal with sustainability?
Of course, people and the environment are central to our policy. For example, our storage depot is energy-neutral and environmental care and performance are guaranteed by ISO 14.001 environmental certification. Packaging is the biggest challenge in our services. On the one hand, the packaging must provide good protection for the property and, on the other hand, we must be economical with waste and raw materials. Through cooperation in the chain, innovation and investment in smart solutions, we are trying to get closer and closer to 100% circularity. We also take our social responsibility seriously. For example, students with a disability are given a fair chance at a learning programme or permanent job with us.
What advice would you give to someone who is about to move house?
Start your preparations in good time, such as making a layout plan for your new home, selecting the items you do or do not want to take with you, and inviting a few Erkende Verhuizers to give you advice and a customised quote with clear agreements. Then select the Erkende Verhuizer you feel most comfortable with.
